1. Yala National Park; a huge area of forest, grassland and lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean, in southeast Sri Lanka. It’s home to wildlife such as leopards, elephants and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species.
2. Lunugamvehera National Park: a protected area in Sri Lanka’s southern dry zone, established to safeguard the Lunugamvehera reservoir’s catchment and its wildlife, particularly elephants and water birds. It serves as a vital elephant migration corridor between Yala and Udawalawe National Parks, making it an important habitat for these animals, especially during dry seasons. The park features a mix of scrubland, grassland, and forest, and offers a less crowded, more authentic safari experience than more famous parks
3. Kumana National Park: is renowned for its avifauna, particularly its large flocks of migratory waterfowl and wading birds.
4. Bundala National Park: is great for birdwatching and most water bird species in Sri Lanka can be found here. There are almost 200 bird species, and 58 of them are migratory. Visitors will be able to glimpse a large number of migratory birds who arrive from September to March.
