Description
The Sihang Warehouse, located on the banks of the Suzhou River in Shanghai, is a six-story reinforced concrete building that was constructed in the early 20th century. It originally served as a storage facility for four major Chinese banks, hence its name.
During the Battle of Shanghai in 1937, the warehouse became a symbol of Chinese resistance against Japanese aggression. A group of approximately 400 Chinese soldiers, known as the “Eight Hundred Heroes,” defended the warehouse against overwhelming Japanese forces for four days and nights. Their bravery and sacrifice have been immortalized in Chinese history.
Today, the Sihang Warehouse stands as a monument to the heroism of those soldiers. It has been preserved as a historical site and is open to the public as a museum, where visitors can learn about the battle and pay tribute to the fallen heroes. The warehouse serves as a reminder of the importance of remembering history and honoring those who fought for their country.
